Labour's Boundary Toll To Hit Met Police

The Labour Mayor’s plan to turn the outer London boundary into a £5.50 daily toll gate will hit half of Met Police officers.

According to information obtained by the GLA Conservatives, 51% of the Metropolitan Police’s officers and 77% of the force’s sergeants live outside Greater London. Of those who drive into the capital for work, Sadiq Khan’s proposed boundary charge could cost officers between £800 and £1270 per year.

Under Transport for London’s detailed proposals for Khan’s proposed boundary charge, drivers would be charged £5.50 a day to enter Greater London, or £3.50 for less polluting vehicles.

Neil Garratt, London Assembly Candidate for Croydon and Sutton commented: “Mayor Khan seems to think Londoners won’t mind his Boundary Toll because he will only apply it to people living outside London. But London isn’t an island, we rely on many people outside London including 51% of Met Police officers.

“Public transport often isn’t an option for essential shift workers. That includes police officers as well as fire fighters, ambulance crews, hospital staff and many others who would have little option but to pay up.
